Developmental, Speech, Pre-Literacy
Screening
Hill Country School Psychology Services conducts developmental and speech/language screenings for preschool to prekindergarten students at your child’s school. Screenings are brief (approximately 15-25 minutes) and determine if further evaluation is necessary. The screening will be performed by a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) and/or a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in the following areas of development and communication:
Developmental: Motor, Concepts, Language, Self-Help, and Social Development
Language: Listening and understanding of speaking skills, and social communication with others
Speech: Articulation or the pronunciation of words, voice or the quality and pitch of vocalizations, and fluency or the flow and smoothness of speech
Pre-Literacy: Basic phonemic and phonetic skills, letter recognition, basic comprehension, and early writing skill.
Children with developmental and/or speech and language delays are at a greater risk for learning disabilities, reading & writing difficulties, and overall academic problems. Early detection and intervention offers the most promising chances for improvement.
After the screening you will be notified of the results via e-mail in a one to two page summary. This information will guide your decision to determine if further investigation/evaluation is warranted to meet the needs of your child.
